ARCHITECTURE NOMAD and ARCNOMA Introduce Elementary Students to the Architectural Profession at P.S. 971 Career Day
BROOKLYN, NY – Christopher Mancia, founder of the international design studio ARCNOMA and the licensed local practice Architecture Nomad PLLC, recently participated as a guest speaker for the Career Services event at P.S. 971, the School of Math, Science, and Healthy Living. Held at the school's campus in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, the youth outreach event was organized to introduce elementary school students to foundational career pathways and inspire early interest in the fields of design, science, and technology.
Mancia designed his presentation to translate complex architectural and urban design principles into highly accessible, engaging concepts for young learners. By shifting the focus away from technical documentation and regulatory zoning, he used tangible examples of how everyday blocks, homes, and public spaces are formed. This early educational outreach is a core element of the firm’s commitment to the professional design pipeline, aiming to cultivate spatial curiosity and civic awareness from an early age.
The presentation highlighted how different ways of thinking shape the built environment, drawing an instructional link to Mancia’s dual-entity professional model. For the young audience, he illustrated how ARCNOMA operates without boundaries to study international cultures and global building science, while Architecture Nomad PLLC applies precise local knowledge to build safe, code-compliant structures across New York City. This framework showed students that a career in architecture blends imaginative global ideas with practical, community-focused problem solving.
"Introducing the field of architecture to elementary school students at P.S. 971 is an investment in the long term civic fabric of our neighborhoods," says Christopher Mancia. "Before children learn about complex codes or advanced software, they must first understand that the spaces they inhabit can be shaped by their own creativity. By sharing how our international research wing collaborates with our licensed practice, we want to show these young students that design is an inclusive pathway where their unique perspectives belong."
The engagement at P.S. 971 directly advances the firm’s overarching mission, the Architecture of Belonging, which views community mentorship as an essential responsibility of the practice. By expanding its educational outreach from primary school workshops to higher education programs at institutions like CityTech, the collaborative ecosystem continues to champion architectural literacy across all stages of learning.
